1066 Battle of Hastings Abbey and Battlefield Description
It seems slightly ironic that one earth-shaping October day in in 1066 should now provide a good day out for thousands of visitors each and every year. The scene of a major English defeat, including the death of their King, it was arguably what was needed to diminish our insular tendencies, and has never happened again since.
A well planned exhibition sets the background to this iconic event, backed with a museum, and a Discovery Centre for children. Looking for a holiday with a difference? South Lodge at Battle Abbey, founded four years after the battle accommodates 4 plus cot in truly rural surroundings with more than hint of history all around.
