Alfriston Clergy House Description
Step back into the Middle Ages with a visit to this 14th century thatched Wealden ‘hall house’. Trace the history of this building which, in 1896, was the first to be acquired by the National Trust. Discover why the chalk floor is soaked in sour milk, and visit the excellent shop with its local crafts. Explore the delightful cottage garden and savour the idyllic setting beside Alfriston’s parish church, with stunning views across the meandering River Cuckmere.
