Ardington House Description

In the countryside just a few miles south of Oxford stands Ardington House; it is surrounded by well-kept lawns, terraced gardens, peaceful paddocks and parkland, this Baroque house was built in 1720. You will find it on the edge of the village of Ardington, with its picturesque cricket ground, village stores, and ancient church, in the lee of the downland linking the Thames valley to the Kennet.

Built by the Strong brothers with typical Georgian symmetry, the House is also famous for its Imperial Staircase. Leading from the Hall, the staircase has two matching flights leading into one and is considered by experts to be one of the finest examples in Britain.

The main rooms of the House are adorned with many paintings and furniture from several periods. Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman wrote of the homeliness and warmth of Ardington House, and the rooms have seen many special occasions and important visitors in the past.

Weddings, Conferences and Corporate Entertainment:
Ardington House is available for wedding reception and ceremonies; they are licensed to hold civil ceremonies and receptions can range from drinks in the house to a full dinner and dance reception using marquees in the grounds. Away from the crowds and the hustle of the workplace Ardington House provides a private and secluded setting that you can control. The calm, exclusive use environment allows for offsite board meetings, conferences and workshops in the main rooms, the Hall or in the grounds.

For team building events, award ceremonies, shows or displays you can also use the splendid gardens and grounds, while the heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, croquet lawn and trout river are all at your disposal. There are many paddocks and quiet areas including the island that may be used for presentations, team tasks, competitions or display stands. Close by is the historic Ridgeway Path which can be used for walking or mountain biking.

The House has nine comfortable bedrooms, 6 double and 3 single (some ensuite) all with beautiful views. The village pub is at the end of the driveway and has 3 double ensuite rooms.
