Hill Top Description

Beatrix Potter wrote many of her famous children’s stories in this little 17th-century house and it has been kept exactly as she left it, complete with her furniture and china. There is a traditional cottage garden attached. A selection of her original illustrations may be seen at the Beatrix Potter Gallery.

Note: Hill Top is a very small house and a timed entry and booking system is operated. The number of visitors is monitored to avoid overcrowding and to protect the fragile interior. This is a unique and popular property, and visitors sometimes have to wait to enter. We regret that occasionally some visitors may not gain entry at all. School holidays are particularly busy and, as a general rule, visitors are advised to come at the beginning or end of the season if at all possible

2nd April - 26th May & 3rd September - 30th October: Saturday - Thursday, 10.30 am - 4.30 pm

28th May - 1st September: Saturday - Thursday, 10 am - 5 pm

Shop & Garden:

12th February - 1st April: daily, 10.15 am - 4 pm

2nd April - 27th May & 3rd September - 30th October: daily, 10 am - 5 pm

28th May - 2nd September: daily, 9.45 am - 5.30 pm

31st October - 23rd December: daily, 10 am - 4 pm

Last admission 30 minutes before closing.

Entry to shop and garden free on Friday when house closed.
