Peterborough Cathedral Description

The Cathedral Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Andrew goes back over 1350 years. It was unsuccessfully attacked by Hereward the Wake, then destroyed by fire in 1116. It was the resting place for Mary Queen of Scots after her execution at nearby Fotheringhay, until 1612. Its wooden painted ceiling dates from the 13th century and is the only survivor of its kind in Britain today.

A lively and frequent programme of events revolves round the culture and history of this very corporate cathedral and visitors will nearly always find something of interest going on in addition to the cathedral itself.
