Visited this weekend. A real gem of a country house and probably the most access I've ever had to any heritage property I've visited. With the knowledgeable guides including one chap that had worked for 16 years at the property based in the Billiards Room - you really feel the history of this fantastic family home. Would happily visit again and if you've never been and are in or around Doncaster. Go visit - you won't regret it. Thanks to all the guides in the rooms who made our trip so memorable - you do a great job and myself and my girlfriend really appreciated it.

As a new Volunteer Room Steward at Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, since June 2011, I am delighted to serve visitors in this well-conserved house. In conserving the country house as it was found when English Heritage bought it in 1990, it is possible to appreciate the subtle changes made throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Mrs Sylvia Grant-Dalton, who lived in the house for 56 years until her death in 1988, was keen to retain as much of the original character of the house as possible, although a leaking roof caused a great amount of damage. As a recent History graduate of the University of Derby, I am eager to learn more from the Steward files on each room in order to be able to answer as many questions as possible that visitors ask and help individuals appreciate the country house a little better. I write a regular blog on some of my experiences on Brodsworth Hall to create better understanding and promote myself as a volunteer with English Heritage.

We had a most enjoyable visit to Brodsworth Hall today. The gardens were beautiful and the gardeners were very enthusiastic and informative about the plants. After a lunch taken in the outside area we visited the interior of the house and the room guides were so knowledgeable and ready to talk to us that it took much longer than we anticipated. Well done to everyone concerned we felt very welcome and the visit was excellent.

I visit Brodsworth Hall at least once every year. My first visit was fourteen years ago on a school visit with my son. What I love is the way the building has been preserved to show it's recent history as well as its ancient past. The people who work there love to tell visitors stories about the people who lived there, I never tire of hearing these. The gardens are excellent and well worth a stroll when the house isn't open. The cafe, set in the servant’s quarters is well worth a visit.
