Smithills Hall Historic House Description

Smithills Hall dates from the 14th century. The Great Hall, with its massive timbers, is the centrepiece of the Medieval House where the Lord of the Manor, his family and retainers ate and slept, and at times of danger shared with their animals.

In more settled times the house was extended in the 15th and 16th centuries to provide living rooms and bedrooms for the family.
