St Michael's Mount Description

Originally the site of a Benedictine priory and approached by a causeway at low tide, the dramatic castle on top of this famous rocky island dates from the 12th century. It was converted into a private house in the 17th century and contains fascinating early rooms, an armoury, a rococo Gothic drawing room and, at the highest point, a 14th century church. There are magnificent views towards Land’s End and The Lizard.

There are no facilities for dogs on the island. Sensible shoes are advisable, as many walking surfaces are uneven. Passages in the castle are narrow, so some delays may occur at the height of the season.

• Last admission 45 minutes before closing
• Closed Saturday
