Details

Chipchase Castle is one of the best examples of Jacobean architecture in the borders. The 14thC pele tower is very well preserved and gives insight into living conditions during the turbulent times of the border raids. The gardens are filled with interest, a walled vegetable garden, wild garden with lake, fine mature trees, spring bulbs, rhododendrons, roses, shrubs and herbaceous borders. Adjoining nursery garden with plants for sale.
Refreshments available.

Opening details

Chipchase Castle is open to the public from the 1st to the 28th June, from 2pm to 5pm daily (last tour at 4.30pm). Tours are available by arrangement at other times.

The Castle Gardens & Nursery are open from Easter to the 31 August, Thursday to Sunday & Bank Holiday Mondays, from 10am to 5pm.

By Road:
A69 to A6079, then through Barrasford. Or A69 to A6079 , then Kielder route on B6318. Signs to follow from Wark.

From Hexham, take the Kielder route or A69 to Acomb through Wall village and straight across Brunton Crossroads to Chollerton/Barrasford. Signs for Chipchase Castle at entrance.


By Public Transport:
Bus 880 to Wark from Hexham. Then 1.5 miles.
