The beautiful fairytale turrets of Floors Castle, Nr. Kelso

Floors Castle, Borders: Fairytale Turrets

If you are looking for a fairytale castle, you just might have found it at Floors Castle in the Borders near Kelso. The simple Georgian house here was remodelled in the 1840s into a towered and turreted fantasy castle for the 8th Duke of Roxburghe whose descendants still live here. It is said to be the largest inhabited house in Scotland. In 1903 an American heiress filled the house with precious tapestries, porcelain, 20th century paintings and fine furniture. This generation are enhancing the gardens, adding a perennial garden to the established Millennium Parterre, Victorian kitchen garden and fine herbaceous borders in the Walled Garden.

Mrs. Hudson loves a Great British holiday. You can view her recommendations for places to visit and keep up to date with all our Great British news on our blog.
