Castle Ashby Description

Castle Ashby, surrounded by 200 acres of parkland designed by Capability Brown, is the ancestral home of the 7th Marquess of Northampton; set in the heart of a 10,000 acre estate, the extensive gardens at Castle Ashby are a combination of several styles, with a mile long avenue dating back to 1695.

Victorian terrace gardens, the more private and romantic Italian gardens, an elegant conservatory, triumphal arch, and arboretum are all just a short stroll away.

The lands at Castle Ashby were given to the family in 1512 by Henry VIII and 62 years later Queen Elizabeth I permitted William, Lord Compton to demolish the derelict 13th century castle on them and replace it with the present house.

There is a tea room in the walled garden area of the grounds and along side this is a beautiful gift shop.

Coach parties are very welcome to visit the gardens and to relax in the tea room.

Your Reviews of Castle Ashby

B Short (26 August 2008)

I thoroughly enjoyed going around the grounds, particularly the stupendous fuchsia house where, if you take note of a particular plant, the staff will pot one up for you for next year. Try and visit the place, you will not be disappointed. They also have a lovely tea room.

Used to be Children's Nanny at Castle Ashby - loved walking with the children & dogs in the beautiful grounds. Cold living in the house though!
